When my favorite critic for the New York Times, Kelefa Sanneh, recently wrote an article praising the German rock band Tokio Hotel, I decided to check them out. On YouTube I watched their videos for “Monsoon” and “Ready, Set, Go!” which are supposed to be their more popular songs (and some of the only ones they sing in English), and I really wasn’t that crazy about them. The music was a lot darker than I had anticipated- I was expecting more of a pop sound. THEN, I watched some of their videos in German, and it was almost like seeing a different band. They’ve got tons of energy, and seem to have a much more upbeat, pop sound. The band is scheduled to release their first American album in April called Scream, and I’m hoping it features more upbeat songs like “Beitche” (posted below), rather than sticking with the dark, Evanescence-like sound of “Monsoon.” They’ve already sold over 3 million albums in Germany and Austria, as well as other European countries, but they’ve had a hard time appealing to English speaking countries. They do seem like a cool band though, and I hope they figure out a way to successfully cross-over.

This looks like someone taped the video and played the song on a cd or something. It’s horrible but the real video to this song rocks. I love Tokio Hotel and especially the lead singer. He so cute. Some say he looks like a girl but I can see the man in him. (Although he’s gay.)

I absolutely LOVE Tokio Hotel, their music is incredible with amazing sounds and Bill’s (the lead singer) voice is icredably unique and he uses it in ALL the rigt ways! Their lyrics are incredible, with powerful messages and inspiring stories. Added on to all that, their good looks aren’t hurting at all! Good on you for listening to their music in German as well as English! Allthough they did a great job with the english, it is obvious that they are more comfortable with German, and even if you dont understand the words, the music is always understood! I agree in that I really hope they are able to make the crossover! They sure have the talent and support!

To Jazzlyn: They have never made a video for Beichte. They’ve “only” made music videos for Durch den Monsun, Schrei, Rette Mich and Der letzte Tag from the first album. And Bill is not gay. Once it was all over the media, but then exklusiv ( a German television program) asked Bill about it him self so people could move on instead of people (especially girls) crying everywhere and he said that he wasn’t gay and he has had girlfriends too.
But beyond all that: I love their music, I know it might seem as if I am some insane fan, but I only like their music and well they look good and it seems as if they are really fun, but I don’t know them, but anyway. There music is great and I hope they will keep on making it for a bunch of centuries ^^

BILL is not GAY! I much prefer their German sound to their English. They have more upbeat tunes as said here and is more ‘original’ you can say. The fact that the lead singer and guitarist are identical twins struck me as shocking because I never would have guessed it! I would’ve thought that Tom and Gustav are fraternal twins.

yeahhhhh umm Beichte just happens to not really that happy of a song its talking about confessing all the things they have done and how bill wants to be an angel in hell and how god does not want to hear his confessions thats what Beichte means confessions so yes love that song but not really that happy of a song lol.

Bill looks rather womanly. Its probably his high Cheekbones and his MEGA skinny waist doing the works (Yes, his waist is super skinny, I’ve just noticed :P).
Tom could look just like Bill in a way if he shared the same getup as Bob. hehe, it would be an interesting sight.
